In 2022, the Rotaract Club of Accra-East Legon embarked on a transformative project to refurbish the library at Baba Yara Basic School, bringing new life to a vital educational resource. This initiative aimed to provide the students with a conducive space for learning, fostering a love for reading and enhancing their academic experience.
The library had fallen into disrepair, with outdated materials and inadequate facilities hindering the students’ access to valuable educational resources. Recognizing the importance of a functional library in promoting literacy and academic growth, our club took on the challenge of restoring the space. With the support of volunteers and sponsors, we set out to renovate the library and stock it with new books, educational materials, and comfortable reading areas.
The refurbishment project involved painting the space, repairing furniture, and installing new shelves to hold a diverse collection of books, catering to students across different age groups and academic levels. The library now serves as a welcoming environment where students can explore literature, study, and broaden their horizons.
The impact of this project has been profound. Students and teachers alike have expressed their gratitude for the improved facilities, which have already begun to inspire a renewed enthusiasm for reading and learning. The Rotaract Club of Accra-East Legon is proud to have contributed to the educational development of the students at Baba Yara Basic School and is committed to continuing its efforts to support education in local communities.
By refurbishing this library, we hope to leave a lasting legacy that empowers students with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed, both in the classroom and beyond.
