The laughter at a small orphanage in Accra was a little louder 2nd August, 2025, thanks to the Rotaract Club of Accra East Legon (RoCAEL), whose members traded their Saturday routine for a day of service, smiles, and shared meals.

It was all part of Future on My Back, a community service project. RoCAEL teamed up with Josey’s Health Corner and catering partners Shorr’s Haven to bring joy to children and residents at the Village of Hope Orphanage in Accra.

The orphanage is home to not only babies and young children but also individuals living with disabilities and special needs. It was against this backdrop that the Rotaractors spent the day connecting with the residents, listening to their stories, and leaving behind both memories and practical support.

A highlight of the visit was the presentation of 67 brightly colored backpacks, each carefully packed and given to the children, a gesture that symbolized both encouragement and the promise of a brighter future.

“Every bag is a reminder that someone believes in their potential,” said Shafeeq Nii Odoi Nsiah, President of the Rotaract Club of Accra East Legon.

Josey’s Health Corner, with its five-year track record of delivering health education and preventive care in underserved Ghanaian communities, added a wellness touch to the day.

“Partnerships like this prove that caring for people’s futures isn’t just about health, it’s about hope,” said Josephine Bempong, CEO of Josey’s Health Corner.

The day ended with warm, shared meals prepared by Shorr’s Haven, ensuring that the joy was as much about fellowship as it was about the gifts. Project Director Jamila Abu-Fei, Club Administrator Najib Alhassan, and fellow Rotaractors joined in serving, playing, and creating memories that will linger far beyond the afternoon.

There were mentorship sessions as well where some Rotaractors shared their experiences.

For the residents of Village of Hope, it was more than just a visit. For the Rotaractors, it was a reminder that the most meaningful Saturdays are the ones spent making a difference.
